Every American has rights, tey are all clearly stated in the bill of rights and every American citizen is given these rights. This was not alwas true, especially in this time period, the US government was silencing those that spoke against elected officals and this was often the case for German immigrants.
Germans were being accused constantly of plotting against the government, because they were easy targets, Since their home country was at war with the US those families of the soldiers who died in the war had a lot of hate for German immigrants.
Responsibilities
Every citizen in the US has responsibilities, those for German immigrants were harder. They not only had their basic responsibilities, but they had others, such as working much more harder and proving your allegiance, a way they would do this is by having to go to war against the Germans, and most ended up dead.
Americans were always suspicious of German immigrants, and those who had come to America had to show that their allegiance laid with the United States. Even elected officials who were German were often thought of to be spies, or corrupted and plotting things against the Constitution.
